The Copper Tea Kettle

The copper tea kettle is known for its stylish appearance, durability, and fast boiling time. Since copper is a great conductor of heat, a one or two liter kettle filled with water will boil in the matter of minutes!

This piece of teaware also makes a fine gift for loose leaf tea drinkers. It will fit nicely in almost any kitchen, and looks great on the backburner!

Copper tea kettles are also more energy efficient due to the fast boil time, and can be used on both gas and electric ranges, which makes these kettles a favorite for many folks, and are usually chosen over the heavier cast iron or fragile glass kettle types.

However these kettles were not always used for boiling water.

The copper kettle dates back to historic times and were mostly used for decorative purposes rather than for boiling water. The use of iron kettles were more popular in those days.

Copper kettles range in price and durability, and even today some are still only made for decoration. The only cons about these kettles is that one must keep up with maintaining its unique shine since copper tends to tarnish quite quickly. The more expensive kettles have a protective coating on them which abates the discoloration, but even these types will eventually need a buffing.

Also, copper tends to leave slight metal taste in water. Again, this will depend on the quality of the kettle.

Another important thing is that copper kettles require a medium to low flame as a high flame can shorten the life span of the kettle.

All in all, these shiny items make a great piece of tea brewing equipment that all hardcore tea drinkers should love!
