The Cuisinart CJK-17BC will boil water fast and do so in a quiet manner. Its style may sort of remind you of an old Faber ware 8 cup percolator, and its cordless benefit offers tremendous convenience when serving hot water for tea, hot chocolate, or instant oatmeal.
Folks love the large handle, and no spill spout, but it seems that across the internet there are mixed reports of its life expectancy. Some state they had it working perfectly fine for years, while others say it breaks after just 3 months.
*Perhaps there was just a bad batch that came off of the manufacturing line?
Either way, its close competitors, the Breville Ikon and the Krups FLF3 are also worth considering before making a final selection as they share similar pros and cons.
Which brings us to:
Cuisinart CJK-17BC Pros
brushed stainless steel look offers great style
large easy grip handle
relatively simple to use
no plastic taste in water like some cheaper plastic models
quiet operation
you do not have to wait long for water to boil
offers the benefit of being cordless
Cuisinart CJK-17BC Cons
plastic lid button prone to getting stuck or breaking
some plastic parts throughout despite stainless steel body
small alignment pin on base is small and prone to bending
poorly designed contacts on base / sometimes difficult to set in place
*may or may not last more than a couple of uses?
Another piece of advice regarding this particular Cuisinart electric kettle model is to try not to get in to the habit of pressing the lid button when pouring! This will open up the top of kettle releasing boiling hot water all over the place leading to a nasty burn.
Just pour using handle!
So for $70 this kettle doesn't seem to shabby, just some cons that should be discovered; nothing is perfect after all.
