Huang Jin Bolero oolong tea is a newcomer to Adagio Teas, (at time of this writing; 4/11/10) and in the short time it has been offered on the site has earned some nice feedback.
As for my review, it has a light pleasant flowery aroma with hints of green tea characteristics and brews a rather light golden/green liquor that looks great when the sunlight catches it.
The flavor of this tea is not all that complex as it produces mild grassy tones that are more on the sweet side if any, along with nice floral notes that sort of transform into a citrus-like aftertaste that sits on the palate for a while; but nothing bitter about it. There is also a few hints of nutty honey-like flavors that I noticed in my second steeping.
As some folks state, it is a "forgiving" tea to prepare and it really doesn't matter if you add boiling water, or steaming 200 degree water...the results are very similar.
Steeping time is 4 to 5 minutes although I haven't yet noticed a major difference between those two variances.
One thing folks may want to have when preparing this oolong variety is a large infuser allowing the leaves to fully open. Like with most loose oolong tea, the leaves are rolled into curly balls that need room to steep in order to release as much flavor as possible.
Right now, Adagio teas gives a short description about this variety, but does not state whether this is a Chinese or Taiwanese oolong tea. If I had to guess, I would say Taiwan.
Either way, it is a pleasant tea with a light vegetal taste that most fans of oolong should enjoy.
