Rooibos (Red Bush), A Great Non-Tea

I have to say that my first cup of Rooibos (pronounced "roy-boss") had me worried. I wasn't sure if I would get used to it, and was afraid that I was going to miss out on a good thing since thousands of other folks were enjoying and consuming its impressive health benefits.

Boy has that changed...

cup of rooibos

After about 4 cups I was hooked and was glad that I became accustomed to the sweet nutty taste of this delightful beverage.

You see, I love regular tea, but sometimes you have to let a tisane (herbal tea) in the mix. And I have to say that Rooibos, next to olive leaf tea, is probably the best non-tea I've experienced...it is truly a great tea substitute.

Adagio Teas - All Natural Rooibos Loose Tea (Flavored Too!)

Red Bush, which is its native name, does not come from the Camellia sinensis tea plant as do traditional true teas. Instead, this herb grows from the plant Aspalathus linearis which is native only to South Africa.

The brew from this tisane rivals tea in all areas. From health benefits, to flavor, to wonderful aroma, affordability, and of course drinking enjoyment. If one runs out of tea, or better yet, wishes to enjoy a beverage with no caffeine before bed, rooibos is a cool choice.

The only con I have about Red Bush is that there are limited varieties, where like tea there are thousands. However this herbal treat acts as a break from tea and does come in a selection of flavors that almost everyone can enjoy.

Health Benefits

Almost everyone has heard or read about the many health benefits green tea has to offer, but did you know that according to recent studies this herbal tea rivals green tea?

Red Bush tea can...

  • Help boost the immune system
  • Help folks who suffer from heartburn
  • May help calm and relax infants by abating colic symptoms
  • Aids in digestion, constipation, and nausea

Where To Get It?

Getting your hands on this herbal tea may pose a challenge depending on where you live. I would expect that some health food stores would carry it, but in the event they do not offer it, the best place to find this great tisane is online.

I buy my Rooibos tea from the same place I buy some of my loose leaf tea, Adagio teas. They offer a nice selection worth checking out. I recommended them.
