Slippery elm tea can be made from powder which comes from the bark of this elm species of tree.
Slippery elm, which is also called Moose Elm, Indian Elm, and Red Elm is native to North America and has been used by native American Indians as well as early pioneers for many medical purposes.
The bark of this tree is loaded with nutrients which makes it an easy food to digest. If made into a cruel or tea, it can help relieve digestive problems like irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhea, constipation, and stomach ulcers.
Slippery elm herbal tea can also be used with infants and ill babies since it is very easy to digest. Always consult your child's physician first!
Slippery elm produces a jelly-like substance which is usually supplemented with nutmeg or cinnamon for added flavor, and can be used for other health ailments and conditions such as:
Sore throat relief
Cough
Skin softener
Wounds, burns, and boils
Other minor respiratory ailments
Slippery elm herbal tea is also an ingredient found in Essiac tea, a blend of 4 to 8 different herbs which is a common cancer treating alternative, and used for other health conditions too.
Another herbal I haven't sampled, slippery elm is available in power or capsule form which can be purchased online or in some health food stores.
