Tea Cake And Russian Tea Cakes

Tea Cake is another simple treat that is served and enjoyed with hot tea!

There are several types of tea cakes that fits the category, with Russian tea cakes as one of the most popular.

Russian tea cakes are not really a "cake" since they have more of a cookie characteristic. Also called "snowballs", or "Mexican wedding cakes", these round white tea treats are perfect after meals or for breakfast when just a single cup of tea isn't enough.

They are about the size of a walnut, taste rather sweet, and are covered with powered sugar. It is not a challenge to consume several of these delicious tea cakes.

Other types of tea cakes have more of a bun shape such as the Britain and Ireland variety. These tea foods are usually yeast based, and are generally consumed as a breakfast.

Some folks may also refer tea cakes as just a plain roll, biscuit, or cookie. In the United States, tea cakes are known more as butter cookies, which may or may not have filling such as jelly, jam, or chocolate. These are also known as sugar cookies.

In Australia, the cake is actually a cake, which is larger than the above mentioned, and is sliced when served with tea. The cakes are sometimes sprinkled with a cinnamon and sugar dusting and are served while still warm.
